Remote Storage

Nearly every business in the SMB market stores and manages its crucial business data locally. Remote Storage technologies provide a convenient way to supplement and in some cases replace this scenario. Remote storage services is a general term that ranges from inter-office availability of data from remote locations to off-site data storage. It can be provided by company owned and implemented systems, outsourcing services, and increasingly by bundled services from telecom or internet providers such as Cbeyond.

Remote Storage can be accomplished through a truly dizzying array of technologies and services, but conceptually the tasks which it is designed to perform fall into three main categories: Remote Backup, Remote Storage, and Remote Archiving.

Remote Backup and Recovery provides timely access to current business data in case of disaster or file corruption that is independent of the physical business location. This solutions ensures that businesses do not lose important information and can quickly recover from loss of data. Backup processes are designed to be automated, covering incremental and differential backups, allowing multiple versions of lost files to be recovered. Often this solution is deployed in conjunction with a disaster recovery strategy and provides redundancy for existing on-site backup solutions, provided extra protection of a company's moist precious asset- its data.

Remote Storage uses file servers off-site in a different location than your the primary business location to provide the same data serving function as a local file server would.. Many businesses use this to centralize all company data at a central location rather than having multiple separate data stores. Such a centralized data storage scenario provides access to the data securely from branch office or telecommuters while simultaneously reducing administrative overhead. Designed as a real-time data service, it should also be backed up with a properly implemented data backup solution. End users interact with the Remote storage in much the same way they would connect with data on a network server.

Remote Archiving keeps long term archives of important business data for compliance reasons or retention purposes. Important files are not over-written with more recent versions of files as is the case with backup, because you need to ensure that archives are exact copies of the data at a certain point in time. Depending on retention policies up to six years of data may required to be archived.

As with any technology, Archer Solutions brings experience and training to your business for determining how best to leverage your existing technology and services to accomplish your business objectives.
